Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at reception@adhddoctorstasmania.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Absolutely! Dr Meg runs the practice independently and encourages you to email any questions to reception@adhddoctorstasmania.com.au before booking. Email is often the fastest way to get tailored advice or clarify your options.

Yes, this ADHD Doctors practice is willing to hold permits and work collaboratively with specialists for patient care. While we are currently supporting more than 300 patients in this way, each case is assessed individually, and we cannot guarantee permit holding or coprescribing in every situation. Approval can depend on regulatory requirements, clinical factors, and local guidelines, but we always aim to help when it is safe and appropriate. If you have questions about your circumstances or how this works, please email reception@adhddoctorstasmania.com.au for more information.

**ADHD Assessment and Referral Process**

You are not locked to complete all steps, you will maintain your own control over your pathway. The initial appointment will be the first step to options for your treatment.

Initial appointment – $200: This first visit is where we listen to your concerns, complete an assessment, and provide a specialist referral if needed - you can see a specialist of your choice.

Specialist assessment – up to $1,200: The specialist’s detailed report will clarify your diagnosis and provide a treatment plan. Your referral is valid for **12 months**, so there’s no need to rush—take your time with the next step.

Follow-up appointment – $180: When you’re ready, we’ll review the specialist’s report together, organise permit applications, and arrange any further tests if required. This can be done **anytime within 2 years** of your Specialist appointment or using a relevant previous specialist report in some circumstances.

The total process is around $1,800, but Medicare rebates often mean your actual out‑of‑pocket cost is lower. There’s no pressure to complete everything quickly—the process can be spaced out to fit your own circumstances and budget.

If you have questions at any stage, we’re here to help guide you through.

Our Fees:

Usual Hours fees:
5 minute intro video call $0
Initial appointments $200
ADHD plus Peri/Menopause extended initial appointment $300

this isn’t always straight forward but if you are in WA, Tasmania, Queensland or Victoria the answer is usually yes.

We have helped people at all stages of their ADHD path. At the beginning helping with diagnosis but also later in the process to iron out problems or take over as co-prescribers.

Please note

Medication

  1. ADHD Doctors is a adhd therapy clinic for patients 10 years and older living in Tasmania, Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland.  Patients can have follow up by our GP, Dr Meg McKeown.
  2. Costs: ADHD Doctors fees can be seen on our booking page but please be aware that any Specialist that ADHD Doctors refers patients to, charge their own fees and these will need to be discussed with the Specialist service at the time of booking with them.
  3. A specialist is usually required after the initial consultation with ADHD Doctors and before the second visit with ADHD Doctors.
  4. If you have already received a diagnosis from a psychiatrist or a paediatrician, the general practitioner (GP) who referred you to that psychiatrist will need to write to ADHD Doctors in order to facilitate a change of GP. Additionally, the psychiatrist will need to issue a new copy of report to the GP to Dr McKeown. Please note that reports addressed to other GPs cannot be transferred to ADHD Doctors under any other circumstances.
  5. ADHD Doctors cannot assure patients of receiving prescriptions for specific medications due to the assessment procedures and compliance with Legislation. The assessment outcomes from the specialist and permit applications are discussed during appointments, emphasising transparent communication with patients and their primary healthcare providers to explore treatment options in accordance with legal requirements.
